Frederick County Community Events:

First Saturday is a day to show your love for local!

Support local businesses by shopping with an independent retailer, eating at a local restaurant, supporting local artists and exploring Downtown Frederick.

Where you spend your money matters.

Whether you’ve lived here for years, or you’re a first time visitor, First Saturdays are a great time to discover something new about our beautiful downtown.

The Cellar Door is the place to be every Sunday night for a comedy show to remember!  Shows begin at 7pm and there is cover charge and order minimum.  Check out the website to confirm details.

Cat Kid and Molly Pollywog have started an epic club to teach 21 rambunctious baby frogs how to make their own comics! Their fishy father Flippy is overjoyed that his kids will learn to unleash their creativity, but when the frogs’ constant bickering and outrageous imaginations send their comics comically off the rails, Flippy flips out! Will the club survive? Will the frogs ever get along? And will creativity finally save the day? All will be answered in this madcap musical based on Dav Pilkey’s irreverently hilarious book series.

Reserved seating ($15-$20)

Join us in Carroll Creek Park on November 18th as the 2023 – 2024 fleet sets sail! There will be music and food trucks to spectators to enjoy! Walk along the creek and see first hand what goes in to this incredible display and vote for your boat while you’re there.

The fleet includes gaff-rigged ketches, yawls, three-masted schooners and pirate ships, moored with their sail outlines, rigging and decks lit up every day from dusk till dawn. If you can’t imagine it make sure to come by and take a look at the amazing flotilla!

Not only are these boats easy on the eyes, they raise money for good causes! Vote for your favorite and you’ll be donating to a selected charity at the same time. Learn more about the organization at

Please be cautious and careful as this is an event with heavy machinery and there will be plenty of safe viewing area on the suspension bridge.

Join us for our 13th Annual Traditional Village Christmas!

Outdoor, European style Holiday market. Decorate a fresh wreath with bows, balls, bells, pinecones, holly, icicles and ornaments or let our volunteers do it for you! Select unique handmade gifts for the holidays. Watch a blacksmith at work!

Enjoy hot apple cider and heirloom-recipe baked goods. Children can make a craft and enjoy a visit with Belsnickel. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Christmas in Catoctin Furnace included a visit from Belsnickel to the homes of German immigrants.  During this visit, which took place two weeks before Christmas, Belsnickel rewarded good children with treats but carried a switch to punish naughty ones.

Multiple local Brunswick organizations work together to kick off the holiday season with a full day of activities, including Breakfast with Santa at the Brunswick Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, the European-style Holiday Popup Marketplace hosted by Brunswick Main Street, and the Brunswick Area Recreation Council's Santa Stroll & Jingle Bell Run that gets everyone moving for charity. The day concludes with the cheery lights and music of the City of Brunswick's Holiday Parade and tree lighting with cocoa for all!

Full schedule with start and end times for each event to come.

The stunning artistry of Maryland Regional Ballet and the beloved Tchaikovsky score combine to transport audiences to the Kingdom of Sweets. Under the direction of Joyce Morrison and featuring guest artists from the New York City Ballet and students from the Frederick School of Classic Ballet, it’s a holiday tradition at its finest.

Follow the procession to the Baker Park Band Shell for a closing ceremony full of holiday cheer including carols, lighting of the City Christmas Tree and, special messages from much-loved characters including the Snow Queen and Kris Kringle himself!

A Frederick community holiday tradition since 1994, director Judith DuBose will conduct a forty voice chorus, twenty-piece orchestra, and four soloists through select choruses and arias of the Messiah by G. F. Handel. The audience is invited to join the chorus for select numbers such as the Hallelujah Chorus and For Unto Us a Child is Born. Copies of the full vocal score will be for sale in the lobby.
